Communication
At the Royal School for Deaf Children Margate we believe that communication is central to each child’s development. Each child has individual needs and we use a child centred approach which enables our pupils to develop their communication and language using systems which are appropriate to them.
A full range of communication modes are used which include Objects of Reference, Picture Exchange System (PECS), British Sign Language (BSL), Sign Supported English (SSE) and speech. Communication is also supported by our Speech and Language Therapy department
All staff receive training in British Sign Language at Signature levels 1, 2 and where possible level 3
